Welcome to the Litchfield High School Activities Marketing Department!
About 8 weeks ago I was taking part in a #busedu Twitter chat and there was some discussion as to projects that are done in marketing class. One of my colleagues, unfortunately this person’s name escapes me, mentioned that she had her classes do some promotional activities for their athletic department. I liked the idea because it gave the students a chance to apply marketing concepts that we have talked about in class.
I decided to just jump in with two feet and fully implement this concept into my Sales and Marketing class. We now spend half of each class period creating promotional materials for our activities department, and the other half covering the curriculum for the class.
Since this implementation my students have been creating many different promotional materials for our activities department. We have been using mostly social media to distribute the content, but we are now in the process of designing signs that we will get printed to display at our district’s athletic facilities. Also, today I had two students go to our local radio station to discuss what we have been doing in class, and to also promote the upcoming events. In the future I would like to create and execute some in game promotional activities as well.

After some discussion with our tech integrationist, Darin Swenson ( @darinswenson ), I decided to have my web publishing class create/maintain a website for our activities department. Our site is still being developed, but the web publishing class has been working to build the site from scratch. This site is a work in progress, but I think so far they are doing a pretty good job.
This is the first Dragon Blog entry, and hopefully it will be the last one that I create. This blog will be open to our students to share their thoughts and feelings regarding high school activities. On Friday, May 1st we will have our first entry when Hunter Schultz shares his thoughts on the idea of implementing the shot clock in high school basketball.
I hope you enjoy what the Litchfield High School Activities Marketing Department is creating!
